Estimate LPA Registration Fees
LPA Fee Result
GBP 214.00
Estimated total for 1 donor and 2 LPA registrations is GBP 214.00 including optional extras.
This is a fee estimate, not legal advice. Fee remission or exemption must be checked against the official rules and evidence requirements.
What The Calculator Counts
LPA registrations = donors x LPA types per donorOPG fee before help = registrations x fee per LPAfee reduction = OPG fee before help x remission or exemption ratetotal estimate = OPG fee after help + professional fee + extrasmonthly set-aside = total estimate / months to saveThere are two main types of lasting power of attorney in England and Wales: property and financial affairs, and health and welfare. They are separate documents. A person who wants both usually pays two registration fees unless fee help applies. A couple making both types each would normally have four registrations, because each donor makes their own documents.
The Office of the Public Guardian fee is the official registration fee. Professional fees are different. A solicitor, adviser or checking service may charge for help, but that is not the same as the OPG registration fee. The calculator separates the official fee from professional and practical extras so the result is easier to read.
Fee Help, Remission And Exemption
Some people can apply for a reduced fee or no fee, depending on income or qualifying benefits. This page lets you model no help, 50% remission or full exemption, but it does not decide eligibility. The official application requires evidence. If the evidence is missing or the donor does not qualify, the saving may not apply.
Fee help is normally considered for the donor, not for the attorney. If there is more than one donor, fee help may differ between donors. For a couple, one person may pay the full fee while the other qualifies for remission or exemption. In that case, run the calculator separately for each donor and add the totals, rather than forcing one setting across both people.
Common LPA Fee Scenarios
| Scenario | Registrations | OPG Fee At GBP 92 | Planning Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| One donor, one LPA type | 1 | GBP 92 | May suit a narrow need, but check whether the other LPA type is also needed. |
| One donor, both LPA types | 2 | GBP 184 | Common planning case for both property and health decisions. |
| Two donors, both LPA types each | 4 | GBP 368 | Each donor has separate documents and fees. |
| One donor, both types, 50% remission | 2 | GBP 92 after remission | Evidence is needed. Check the current OPG rules. |
Documents And People To Keep Separate
Donor
The donor is the person making the LPA. The donor’s fee position matters for remission or exemption. Do not use an attorney’s income to estimate the donor’s fee help.
Attorney
Attorneys are the people appointed to act. Adding more attorneys does not usually multiply the OPG registration fee, but professional drafting cost can change if the instructions are more involved.
Certificate Provider
The certificate provider confirms that the donor is making the LPA freely and has capacity at the time. This is a legal safeguard, not a fee multiplier in this calculator.
Copies And Storage
Certified copies may be needed for banks, care providers or other organisations. Some people budget for copies and postage separately so the official fee total is not confused with admin cost.
Worked Examples
One donor wants both property and financial affairs and health and welfare LPAs. At GBP 92 per registration, the OPG fee is GBP 184. If the donor adds GBP 30 for practical extras and uses no professional help, the estimate is GBP 214. Saving over six months means setting aside GBP 35.67 per month.
A couple each wants both types. That is four registrations. At GBP 92 each, the OPG fee is GBP 368 before any extras. If one donor qualifies for 50% remission and the other does not, calculate one donor at GBP 92 for both LPAs after remission and the other at GBP 184, then add extras. The combined OPG fee would be GBP 276 before professional costs.
If a solicitor quotes GBP 600 to help prepare documents for a couple and the OPG fee is GBP 368, the total planning figure is GBP 968 before copies and postage. The solicitor quote may be worthwhile for complex family, business or capacity issues, but it should be compared as a professional service cost, not as an official fee.
What This Page Does Not Decide
This calculator does not decide whether an LPA is suitable, who should be appointed, how attorneys should act, whether a donor has capacity, whether replacement attorneys are needed, or whether restrictions and preferences are worded safely. Those are legal and practical decisions. It also does not submit forms or store personal details.
Use the estimate to budget, then read the official guidance before applying. If there are disputes, pressure on the donor, business assets, overseas property, care-fee issues, family conflict or doubts about capacity, get proper advice before relying on a simple fee total.
FAQ
How much is the OPG fee per LPA?
GOV.UK lists the fee as GBP 92 per LPA from 17 November 2025. Edit the calculator if the official fee changes.
Do I pay once for both LPA types?
No. Property and financial affairs and health and welfare are separate registrations, so both types usually mean two fees per donor.
Can a couple share one LPA fee?
No. Each donor makes their own LPA documents. A couple making both types each would usually have four registrations.
Who qualifies for a reduced fee?
Fee remission or exemption depends on the official income or benefit rules and evidence. This page only models the fee effect.
Are solicitor fees included?
Only if you enter them. Solicitor or adviser fees are separate from the OPG registration fee.
Is this legal advice?
No. It estimates fees. Legal suitability, capacity and drafting choices need official guidance or professional advice where needed.
