Your Savings Result

£0

Estimated monthly saving after vaping costs.

What This Savings Estimate Includes

The calculator compares the money spent on cigarettes with the money spent on a vaping setup. It includes the daily cigarette habit, pack size, pack price, ongoing vape consumables and a one-off kit cost spread across the months you choose. It is designed for budgeting, not for medical advice. It does not judge nicotine dependence, withdrawal, medication, pregnancy, lung symptoms or whether vaping is right for a specific person.

The result is most useful when you enter real prices. Cigarette prices vary by brand, shop and pack type. Vape costs also vary widely. Refillable devices can have a higher first cost and lower weekly liquid cost. Pod systems can be simpler but may cost more each week. Disposable products can be expensive and may also create waste. Run two or three cases so you can see whether the saving depends on one optimistic price.

Formula Used For The Comparison

Daily cigarette cost = cigarettes per day / cigarettes per pack x pack price.

Monthly cigarette cost = daily cigarette cost x 30.4375.

Weekly vaping cost = e-liquid, pod or disposable cost.

Monthly vaping consumables = weekly vaping cost x 52 / 12.

Monthly kit allowance = one-off kit cost / selected spread period.

Monthly vape cost = monthly consumables + coils, cartridges or spares + kit allowance + other support cost.

Monthly saving = monthly cigarette cost – monthly vape cost.

Annual saving = monthly saving x 12.

Worked Examples

Half A Pack A Day

Someone smoking 10 cigarettes a day from a £15.50 pack spends about £236 per month. If vaping costs £12 a week, plus £6 a month for spares and a £25 kit spread over 6 months, the monthly vape cost is about £62. The estimated saving is around £174 per month.

One Pack A Day

A pack-a-day smoker using the same pack price spends about £472 per month. Even a higher vape cost can still leave a large financial gap, but the result depends on avoiding dual use where cigarettes continue alongside vaping.

Pod System

A pod system might cost £20 per week in pods. That is about £87 per month before kit and spares. The saving may still be strong for a heavier smoker, but less dramatic for a light smoker.

Health And Stop-Smoking Boundary

NHS advice says vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking for adults who smoke, but vaping is not risk-free and is not for children or people who do not smoke. The best financial result is not the only goal. Some people use vaping as part of a stop-smoking plan and later reduce nicotine. Others need support from a stop-smoking service, pharmacist or GP. If you have chest pain, severe breathlessness, pregnancy-related questions, a mental health condition, or concerns about nicotine withdrawal, get suitable healthcare advice rather than relying on a cost page.

Do not treat a monthly saving as a reason to continue nicotine use indefinitely. If your aim is to stop nicotine, add a separate date or plan with a stop-smoking adviser. The calculator can show the financial difference between cigarettes and vaping, but it cannot tell you how to quit safely or comfortably.

Cost Table For Quick Checks

Smoking patternApproximate cigarette spend at £15.50 per 20Budget note
5 cigarettes per dayAbout £118 per monthSmall weekly vape costs can use much of the saving.
10 cigarettes per dayAbout £236 per monthKit cost matters mainly in the first few months.
20 cigarettes per dayAbout £472 per monthDual use can quickly reduce the saving.
30 cigarettes per dayAbout £708 per monthSeek support if cutting down is difficult or withdrawal is strong.

How To Make The Result More Realistic

Include all vape spending, not only liquid. Replacement pods, coils, spare glass, chargers, batteries and failed devices can add up. If you still buy cigarettes at weekends, add those cigarette costs rather than treating the switch as complete. If you use disposable products, count how many you buy per week and enter the full weekly amount. If you are using a refillable device, use your actual bottle use over a month rather than the price of one bottle.

If the calculator shows a negative saving, the vaping setup costs more than the cigarette pattern entered. That can happen for very light smoking, expensive pod use, or a short kit spread period. It does not decide the health question. It only says the entered cash comparison is not a saving.

Checking The Result After Four Weeks

After a month, compare the calculator with bank or shop spending rather than memory. Add every cigarette pack, vape liquid, pod, coil, disposable product and spare part bought during that month. If the real saving is lower than the estimate, look for dual use, impulse purchases, spare devices, or liquid strength changes that increased use. If the real saving is higher, keep that monthly number as a stronger personal budget figure.

Some people also set aside the saving for a visible goal, such as debt repayment, an emergency fund or a planned purchase. That can make the cash difference easier to track and stops the saving from vanishing into everyday spending.

FAQ

Does this calculator include tobacco price rises?

No. It uses the pack price you enter. Run a second case with a higher pack price if you want a future-cost sensitivity check.

What if I smoke and vape at the same time?

Add the remaining cigarette spend to your comparison mentally or reduce the cigarette count only to the amount actually stopped. Dual use can reduce or remove the saving.

Is vaping risk-free?

No. NHS advice is that vaping is less harmful than smoking for adult smokers, but it is not risk-free and is not for children or non-smokers.

Should I include a vape kit cost every month?

Spread the kit cost over the period you expect it to last. If you often replace devices, use a shorter spread period.

Can this tell me how to quit nicotine?

No. It is a money calculator. Stop-smoking services, pharmacists and healthcare professionals can give quitting support.

Why use 30.4375 days per month?

It is the average month length over a year, so monthly and annual estimates stay aligned.
