Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

Most long-term visa applicants must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge alongside their visa fee. This provides access to NHS services during your stay.

IHS Rates 2025:

Adults: £1,035 per year
Students: £776 per year
Children under 18: £776 per year
Youth Mobility Scheme: £776 per year

Important: Visit visas (up to 6 months) do not require IHS payment. The surcharge must be paid for the full duration of your visa upfront.

Do children pay the same visa fees as adults?

Most visa categories charge the same fee regardless of age. However, Child Student visas have the same fee as Student visas, and children pay reduced IHS rates (£776 per year instead of £1,035).

What is the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)?

The ETA costs £16 and is required for visa-exempt nationals visiting the UK. It’s valid for multiple trips over two years and must be obtained before travel.
