Credit System Explanation

UK universities use a credit system where each module is assigned a specific number of credits based on the expected study time:

  • 10 Credits: Approximately 100 hours of study
  • 20 Credits: Standard module size (200 hours)
  • 30 Credits: Extended module or major project
  • 60 Credits: Dissertation or major project
  • 120 Credits: Full academic year

Higher credit modules have more influence on your overall grade.

Grade Boundaries & Progression

Different year groups may have different weighting towards your final degree:

  • Year 1: Often doesn’t count towards final degree (check with your university)
  • Year 2: Typically 33-40% of final grade
  • Year 3: Usually 60-67% of final grade

Some universities also apply grade boundaries, where you need a certain percentage of credits at the higher classification level.
